Seven out of ten consumers occasionally buy organic produce. Animal welfare and the environment are named as reasons for doing so. It’s also supposed to taste better, and be better for you. But is organic food actually healthier? In 2005, a group of scientists commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture conducted a large scale experiment, with chickens. One chicken received organic food, and the other, conventional food. The experiment was viewed with suspicion. A conflict arose over the study’s results.
